Allegro School of Dance and Music is Alive and Dancing Online Through These Uncertain Times!
With the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting day-to-day life as we know it, Allegro School of Dance and Music was quick to respond, launching online dance classes easily available to all Allegro dancers on Monday, March 23rd. During the studio wide spring break, Allegro’s 17 staff members rallied together to embrace and incorporate the changes needed to make online learning a reality. Allegro, celebrating its 30th season , is proud to provide online classes for the first time in its three decades in business. This is an unprecedented time in the industry. The challenges posed by social distancing have opened new opportunities for innovation and creativity in dance and music education.
Allegro School of Dance and Music serves dancers and musicians of various ages. Some students are as young as infants who attend class with their parents or guardian. Classes expand up through middle school and high school students, including adult dancers as well. Allegro continues to serve these diverse populations of dancers through their online platform.
This past week, Allegro offered live dance classes divided by skill set and age groups along with a bonus resource page families can turn to for additional fun and meaningful activities. In the coming weeks, dance classes will be offered in both live and pre-recorded options. Allegro will continue it’s free community event, Wiggle Wednesday through it’s live dance class platform. Weekly live Story Saturday streaming, led by a host of Allegro faculty, has been incorporated. Fitness Forward at Allegro is a new series that offers a variety of fun exercise classes of value to Allegro students and their parents.

Dear ASDM Families and Dancers,
Yesterday, March 15th we announced we would be shifting our Spring Break to begin today through Saturday, March 21st. Following Spring Break, Allegro will be temporarily suspended in-person dance classes.
Our team of 17 employees made it possible to continue services as long as we could following state guidelines. We included every possible precaution from heightened cleaning cycles to curricular changes eliminating props, barres and hand-holding.
It goes without saying that this is an unprecedented time in history, but especially for schools and small business owners in the service industry.
Today, faculty and staff met remotely or had the choice to meet in person (following the 6ft distancing protocol) to plan for the dancers return from Spring Break Monday, March 23rd. Below was the message sent prior to the meeting.
Hello ASDM Faculty and Staff!
As you know, we are following the precautionary Rochester Public Schools K-12 school closure. In these unprecedented times, I want to reaffirm my commitment as a small business owner to the following things for our employees:
1. Job security-- We are proud to employ 17 people in our small business. Any staff member who needs or wants to work during this time has the opportunity to do alternate work while typical classes are suspended.
2. Family Flexibility-- We are committed to making remote work opportunities available for those who need it.
3. Service Excellence-- We are committed to providing service excellence for our students and families. To help us fulfill this (and to make sure we are ready for the Spring Dance Concert), each teacher will be recording practice videos with faculty to keep kids active and engaged during the break.
Again, we so appreciate our families and dancers staying flexible as this is a rapidly evolving situation. A variety of online interactive, recorded, and live class options are in the works as we speak! Stay tuned, we are working hard to develop content for next week!
Thank you again for your support during this challenging time. Please reach out to us directly should you have questions regarding how we are moving forward.
