Whether you are a dance teacher, dance parent, or dancer at Allegro you will have heard the word "Acro" used around the studio in the past year. So what is Acro all about?! Acrobatic arts is a newer addition to dance studios throughout the country. We are lucky here at Allegro to be the FIRST certified studio in Southeast Minnesota! We have two certified Acro teachers that use the Professional Curriculum for Acrobatic Dance to provide challenging, fun, and safe lessons each week. This class looks and feels different compared to traditional dance classes such as ballet or tap. The most surprising difference might be to see students upside down, using each other as bases to stand on to get into a pose, and falling down and getting back up independently with determination to learn a new trick. Students continually push themselves in stamina conditioning, strength and flexibility exercises, and across the MAT combinations that include limbering and tumbling. Partner and group yoga poses and pyramids are attractions that stand out as you pass our studio window during class. This type of dance training is similar to gymnastics in that students need to build up strength, fall, fail, and try many times to master new skills. What is incredible about Acro is that the skills acquired are beneficial and lend themselves to other types of dance and activities such as yoga, gymnastics, figure skating, and more. If you watch popular dance shows on TV such as So You Think You Can Dance or Dancing With The Stars, you've seen that acrobatic skills are used as big performance attention getters and show stoppers. Here at Allegro we strive to provide our students with a foundation that includes love of dance, strength, and a strong work ethic to help them excel in their acrobatic arts as well as all other physical activities they pursue.
